Integrated Fiber in the Loop Project |
| Challenge |
To manage the design, build, and marketing of an integrated
fiber optics network in Atlanta, GA and South Florida,
allowing the delivery of voice, video, and high-speed
data services in targeted residential areas, totaling
200,000 households in 1999. |
| Solution |
PMT staff provided program and project management
leadership to coordinate engineering, construction and
sales efforts among three main BellSouth operating units.
In doing so, PMT staff instituted various project management
processes to establish and manage an aggressive and
complex deployment schedule. The result was a single
network over which BellSouth provided telephony, video,
and high-speed data services to 200,000 total households.
PMT staff also developed a project manual enabling BellSouth
to replicate these efforts in other markets in the future.
BellSouth’s objective was to build a world-class communications
network which will generate incremental video and data
revenues while providing significant operational cost
savings relative to the existing copper telephony plant. |
