GTE Chicago Data Center build out Project |
| Challenge |
To manage the GTE Chicago Data Center in the absence
of the Data Center’s Manager because of health issues
and to coordinate and execute design specifications and
requirements for the new build out expansion of the Chicago
Data Center design from the GTE Data Engineering Group.
Expansion was for 70 vertical cabinets with installed
network devices (Routers, Hub, Switches, etc.), 4000 Cat
5 cables, a Power Distributions Unit for 300 new electrical
connects, a new 20 ton HVAC, new raised floor, Control
Bench Units, Office rearrangements, etc. |
| Solution |
PMT staff positioned the project back on the requested
timelines for completion. The Project manage was able
to reduce the cost of wiring the facility by acquiring
timely competitive bids. Proper coordination of all
tasks allowed the project team to return to objective
timelines. GTE’s goal was not to lose the continuity
of its Data Center Project management Team and to benefit
from reduced cost because of the competitive bid process
and efficient on-site project management. The request
for proposals reduce the cost approximately 40%. Bringing
the project back under control was another important
goal of GTE’s request to PMT. This was accomplished.
